Last night we literally watched why trying to build a TEAM around 1 singular person (Lindsey Horan) always ends in disaster.

Even when Pia (the biggest Abby Wambach fan on God’s green earth) was coaching, she still coached and tactically designed for the TEAM not just one player.

Jill Ellis benching/leaving off a lot of her 2015 World Cup stars in favor of younger/less experienced in major tournament talent (Christen, Mal, Lindsey, Sam, Rose, Abby, Tierna) is what won them 2019. Because she coached and tactically designed for a TEAM not just one single player.

Vlatko’s Lindsey centric coaching/tactics were fine for the first two games because Lindsey was able to perform. But the second she doesn’t or can’t because she’s being double or triple marked (which is not a hard decision to make if you’re the opposition, when you can clearly see the game flows through ONE PERSON) everything falls apart quick. Which is exactly what we watched in real time last night.

in my high school Art 4 class while we were no doubt supposed to be getting ready for a Very important Art Show, two of my friends made one of these phones but instead of talking into it they would write messages and clip it to the string and slide it across the string to the other and when the art teacher asked why they said “we’re texting” and she could not BELIEVE it, this was the FUNNIEST thing she’d heard all year

so she got on her office phone and called the principal and said “two girls are texting in my classroom I need you to come take their phones and issue them detentions” and we all waited like assholes for him to show up and when he asked where they were she gestured at my friends “texting” on their tin can phone and my principal was already a pretty tired dude but that was the most exhausted I think he ever looked.
